Off the coast of Melbourne, Phillip Island

Connected to the Australian mainland by a single bridge, beaming with native wildlife and surfing beaches is Phillip Island. I’ve been so lucky to spend multiple weekends on the islands, out the way of Melbourne city (approximately one and a half hours from the city centre!)

My first visit here was when I was very young and then I did not appreciate the natural beauty, however when returning again for the first time in 2016 it was in the peak of summer and the glorious landscape was more picturesque then ever before.

Phillip Island has a very interesting history which connects the Australian land with a familiar location in the UK, the Isle of White. Both having similarities with being an island off of a mainland however the history shows more than this to when the island was founded. Phillip Island’s main town is called Cowes adjacent to Cowes in the Isle of Wight, England. Pretty interesting eh? I wondered why it all seemed a little familiar. The island is homed to some of Australia’s most iconic wildlife and scenery, I have had some really beautiful experiences with the nature that makes Phillip Island one of my favourite Australian travel destinations.

If you enjoyed this little read about Phillip Island, you may be interested in my other Australian travel posts about paradise on Hamilton Island or the Whitsunday Islands.
